No Smoking Accommodation in Kent

Finding no smoking accommodation across the whole of the UK certainly isn't a problem these days. In July 2007 a full smoking ban became official legislation, banning smoking across all public places across England. The ban on smoking in public places (in other words 'enclosed places', which is pretty much everything with a ceiling or roof), actually came into force on 1 July 2007 and it has been welcomed with open arms by non-smokers who can now enjoy pubs, clubs, restaurants and of course hotels and holiday accommodation without having to inhale other people's smoke or smell stale smoke in accommodation.

However, there are exemptions to the smoke free law, which include exemptions for bedrooms in hotels. The exemptions will not apply to the whole of a hotel, only to the designated smoking rooms, so guests cannot smoke in any public areas of the hotel, only in their designated smoking bedroom. Designated smoking bedrooms in hotels must be clearly marked, so hotel rooms cannot be allocated as smoking rooms one day and non smoking rooms the next day. Most hotel chains including Travelodge are no smoking throughout however and do not offer designated smoking rooms.

For up-to-date information on the Smoking Ban in the UK and how this affects visitors to kent and Kent accommodation see www.smokefreeengland.co.uk. The aim of the smoking ban is to protect the general public from the harmful affects of second hand smoke. Most if not all (there are few exemptions) public places will be affected - the list includes restaurants, bars, pubs, shops, shopping centres, leisure centres, workplaces and public transport. Some councils have been looking at extending smoking bans to the outdoor but this remains a controversial topic.

No Smoking Self Catering Accommodation Kent

The exemptions to the smokefree law also apply to self-contained holiday accommodation including holiday cottages, holiday flats, holiday apartments, caravans, chalets and log cabins. It is not against the law to smoke in these types of holiday accommodation, however it is up to the property owners whether they allow smoking or not. If you are a smoker and would like to smoke in your self-catering holiday accommodation, or if you would prefer a smoke free holiday, then it is important to check with the owner of the cottage, caravan or chalet so see if smoking is allowed or not. If you are a smoker staying in a non smoking cottage, no smoking caravan or smoke free chalet in Kent, then you are permitted to smoke outside, but you should be considerate about where you drop your cigarette ends.
