The patio is a superb sun trap and the courtyard at the rear has a stunning view of one of England's tallest windmills.

Cranbrook is a small town built on cloth-making and iron smelting. It has a splendid church and a local museum and a modern swimming pool. 10 minutes drive will take you Sissinghurst Castle, Vita Sackville-West's beautiful gardens laid out around a distinctive tower and shops. 30 minutes away will take you Pashley Manor Gardens and Leeds Castle. In an hour you can reach Canterbury and Romney Marsh, Camber Sands and the village of Rye.
